If you follow private or protected accounts on X (formerly Twitter), your follow request goes into a pending state until the user manually accepts it. But what happens if you’ve sent dozens of requests over time and want to review or cancel them?

Unlike Instagram, which allows you to download a complete export of pending connections, X does not offer a centralized menu or downloadable log of all outgoing follow requests.

However, you can still easily check the status of your sent requests and cancel them manually. Here is how to do it.

Method 1: Check Follow Status Directly on User Profiles

Because X does not aggregate sent follow requests in your settings, checking specific accounts directly on the app or desktop web version is the most reliable way.

1. Open the X app or go to x.com.
2. Search for the account username in the search bar.
3. Look at the main action button on their profile page:
   • Pending: Your request is still waiting for their approval.
   • Following: The user accepted your request.
   • Follow: The user rejected/declined your request, or you never requested them.

How to Cancel a Sent Follow Request on X

If an account has left your request on Pending for too long, tap or click the Pending button. The button will switch back to Follow, successfully withdrawing your request.

Method 2: Request Your X Data Archive

While X’s standard data download prioritizes posted content, account history, and messages, you can request your full archive to inspect raw account data logs.

1. Open X and tap your profile icon, then select Settings and Privacy.
2. Tap Your Account > Download an archive of your data.
3. Verify your identity with your account password and 2FA code.
4. Click Request archive.
5. Once your zip file arrives (usually within 24–48 hours), extract the file and open index.html in your browser to inspect account activity logs.

Warning: Avoid third-party “X manager” tools or browser extensions that claim to instantly display all sent follow requests. Granting these services access to your account token can trigger security locks or lead to permanent suspensions under X’s strict API rules.
